My Girlie

The Hakone Open Air Museum

We arrived early in the morning as the fog was starting to lift. This museum is near Mt. Fuji.

Highlights are the extensive and rotating Picasso exhibit housed in its own building on the grounds.  Also, along the trails we ran into a spa foot bath. Guests of the museum grounds simply have a seat on the edge of a running hot springs. It was practically scalding as I recall but soothing on that chilly morning.

More adventuring in Japan

Kamakura

One of our first adventures was to the town of Kamakura where we saw the Great Buddha of Kotokuin. We made many more visits to Kamakura, including New Year's eve. There are many beautiful shrines and temples which are centuries old. The one where this girl was posing for a photo was made of beautiful cypress.

The train is called the Enoden line - part train, part trolley. For five yen we were able to go inside the Buddha statue.

Remembering Japan

First grade field trip in Japan to a large farm. We dug up sweet potatoes out of the rich soil to take home.

Tabi boots are worn by the farmers.
